Is it really worth it to build and design my own website?
It can be, but you have to consider the investment that you're putting into the site that you would otherwise be putting into developing your business or other related tasks. If you don't have an intimate knowledge of HTML, XHTML, CSS, and web programming languages, then you will spend a huge amount of time trying to learn them. You will also experience the trial and error frustrations the professional web designers already have under their belt from numerous years of practice.
Aside from learning the necessary code, you'll also have to invest time and effort into locating or creating attractive images and logos for your site. It's not enough to know how to put what where -- you will also need to develop an artistic flair in order to provide your site with the visual elements necessary to stimulate your visitors. You will also have to factor in aspects such as intuitive navigation and search engine optimization. These are two other essential aspects of site design that a professional designer will have an expert grasp of.
It's all depends on where you feel your time would be better spent: developing your site, or developing your business. |
